A Taxing Problem
President Obama’s nominee for the Treasury Secretary position Timothy Geithner has run into some problems during his Senate nomination hearings. Mr. Geithner is a life long banker and a graduate of John Hopkins University and Dartmouth College. Some of his past jobs were; President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, and Director of Policy Development and Review Department at the International Monetary Fund.
The problem is, this whiz kid genius “forgot” to pay about $35,000 in taxes while working for the aforementioned IMF. You see, the IMF paid Mr. Geithner without withholding his share of payroll taxes. Instead of sending the IRS its share, this brainiac kept the whole amount. He just forgot! He then quickly remembered and voluntarily decided to pay up only after then President Elect Obama nominated him for Treasury Secretary. How swell of him.
This seems like a bad episode of Seinfeld, only it’s not so funny when the rest of us have to pay our gluttonous Uncle Sam every penny we owe or be sent to the slammer. The democrats on Capital Hill are of course, defending his nomination and think he should be confirmed. What an honest non-partisan bunch they are! Everyone with more than a pea in their cranium knows that if this happened to a Bush appointment, the person would be out the door quicker than Ed Norton. That great monument to fairness – The NY Times, would run out of ink pointing out the greed and hypocrisy of the scoundrel and the administration that appointed him!
During his hundred year campaign, President Obama claimed that he would bring a new “transparency” to the white house; that there would be a new way of doing things in Washington. Yeah – right and Osama Bin Laden will convert to Judaism.
