Washingtonian Logic

Senator Susan Collins, (R-ME) along with her clueless colleagues Olympia Snow (R-ME) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) were the only Republicans in the Senate who voted with all the Democrats in support of the Pelosi/Reid/Obama buy-the-vote stimulus package. Yesterday, Senator Collins tried to explain her support.

I’m warning you, its logic that can only come from an entrenched Washington insider!

Last week, Collins had been invited to the White House for a private meeting with Obama, which was said to have lasted 30 minutes. Obama must have turned on the charm, because a gushing Collins later said “It was amazing, Presidents don’t do that. But it does help to be alone and have a free exchange.”

Oh brother!

Collins said that because of her pledged support, she and the two other dummies (Snow & Specter) were allowed in on negotiations (how nice of the democrats) and thus able to trim $110 billion dollars from the so-called stimulus package.  The bill will still run close to a Trillion dollars when all is said and done!

Now let me get this straight. Instead of standing firm with the rest of her republican colleagues, and quite possibly derailing the bill altogether with the threat of a filibuster, she helps trim the bill down to a measly $838 billion. She now wants people to see her as a profile in courage!

No Senator Collins – You aren’t courageous, and you certainly aren’t smart. What you are, is a gutless opportunist!

Now let’s see; I’m approached by a gang of professional thieves, who ask me to help them rob an armored car of 10 million dollars. After thinking about it, and being wined and dined by the leader of the gang, I decide to go along with their scheme. Shortly after the robbery goes down, all of us are arrested by the FBI. During my arraignment, I tell the judge that rather than dropping a dime and stopping the robbery, I convinced the other gang members to steal only 9 out of the 10 million, and thus should be lauded as a hero rather than be prosecuted as an armed robber!

Sound ridiculous? I say it’s no more ridiculous than Collins and her asinine explanation. This is the kind of crap you can only get away with in Washington D.C. – unlike the real world that all the rest of us serfs live in.
