Obama’s Healthcare Speech – Predictably Predictable

After forcing myself to watch President Obama’s speech last night, I have a short but sweet review of exactly what I thought of it.

The speech was self-serving, vague, authoritative, hyper-partisan, and deceitful!

One of the many predictable moments was Obama going back in time to use a convenient punching bag by the name of George W. Bush. How long will this administration use the Blame-Bush tactic as an answer to any criticism they receive? Will they ever accept any blame or take any responsibility?

In defending the cost of the Democrat healthcare reform proposal, Obama said the plan would cost “less than we have spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and less than the tax cuts for the wealthiest few Americans.”

I have some news for our Marxist President. The only reason we didn’t go into a prolonged recession earlier is because the “Bush tax-cuts” kept the economy afloat and even robust at times, all while simultaneously fighting two wars! I was not a big fan of George W. Bush’s second term, but his meager tax cuts again showed that cutting taxes is the only proven way to boost economic growth and create jobs. Just imagine if the tax cuts actually had some teeth in them! Just imagine what a flat-tax would do for the economy and for the American people in general.

Anyway, I digress.

Obama also said that the plan would be paid for by cutting fraud and abuse in the Medicare system. I know that there’s definitely fraud and abuse in the system, but $900 billion worth? He also claimed that “the plan would not add to our deficit.”

In the words of the immortal Ralph Kramden; Har Har Hardy Har Har!

During the speech, Obama sternly chastised the Congress (Republicans) for partisanship and for using scare tactics. He then predictably went on a partisan attack against the people who oppose the plan (Republicans) and used some scare tactics of his own!

He said:

“I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it….If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution, not this time, not now.”

And:

“Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.”

All in all, the speech was very typical of this president. It was full of meaningless rhetoric, and short on substance and truth.

But hey – did we expect anything else?
