Now this is what I call a press conference!

There’s nothing more boring than the press conferences that the managers and coaches of professional sports teams have to participate in after every game. Not only are the questions stupid, but the answers are sterile and predictable. God forbid the manager/coach offends someone on the other team – much less someone on his own team.

In the last decade or so, political correctness has made professional sports a pretty dull form of entertainment. The players all seem to love each other, and the interviews with the press are filled with clichés and phony complements towards everyone from the opposing team, to the guy that sells peanuts in the stands.

Evidently, there was a time when people in professional sports actually spoke their minds and didn’t give a damn about hurting anyone’s feelings. Even the home-town fans were fair game.

Check out this post-game press conference from 1983 featuring Lee Elia, the manager of the Chicago Cubs. Just imagine any manager coming even close to this diatribe in today’s game.

Freakin hilarious!

I’d like to draft this guy to run for Mayor of New York City. In fact, he sounds like he could be talking about many of the people who live in my neighborhood.

Unlike the clowns we currently have to choose from, at least he would tell you what’s really on his mind.
