A new twist to Holiday season political correctness

At this time of year you can always expect lame news reports regarding the amount of money people will be spending for the holidays. It now seems that every year the Thanksgiving-Christmas-Chanukah season is a make or break time for nationwide retailers. However, the stupidity factor of these reports seems to have risen a notch or two due to the heightened politically correct climate in which we now live in.

While flipping through the channels today, I briefly stopped on one of the local network news affiliates. The reporter was in shopping mall parking lot doing the same ol’ predictable holiday season story. But this time with a slight twist. The moron went up to a couple to ask the usual ‘are you going to spend more or less on this year’s holiday shopping as apposed to last year’ question.

So what’s the twist?

The reporter asked a Muslim couple! The woman was dressed in traditional Muslim garb with a head covering (Hijab). The man’s last name was Sayeed. (I don’t remember his fist name) When the reporter asked them the question, the man first hesitated a little bit as if he were surprised by it. He then answered by saying that they were going to spend the same amount as last year because they (he and his wife) had the same jobs. They were the only people that the reporter asked – or it was edited that way.

What the hell?

I shouldn’t have to say this, but I’ll say it anyway. Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas – and they sure as hell don’t celebrate Chanukah! Am I missing something, or are these two holidays the reason for holiday shopping? No…. This isn’t anti-Muslim – it’s just a cold hard fact! And no…. Muslims are not celebrating Ramadan during this period. This year Ramadan was observed from the 21st of August till the 19th of September. This asinine question from the reporter (perhaps at the direction of his producer) was clearly a case of political correctness gone wild! I would wager my last dollar that this couple wouldn’t have been picked to answer this idiotic question if it weren’t for the Jihadist attack that killed 13 people and wounded 30 more at the US Army base in Fort Hood.

What exactly is the media trying to prove by asking a Muslim couple a question regarding their participation in a Judeo-Christian holiday season? Would this reporter have asked a Hasidic Jew how he was going to celebrate Ramadan? Or Christmas? (I use Hasidic in this example becasue they always dress in traditional garb which identifies them as Hasidim) Of course not! It would not only be absurd, but it would probably also be insulting to the Jewish person. There’s a good chance this Muslim couple walked away thinking what a numbskull this reporter was. Who knows – they may also have been offended at his ludicrous and patronizing question.

I know that I sound like a broken record, but this political correctness is driving me mad! It’s stupid, it’s irrational, and it’s dangerous. As if there isn’t enough PC garbage associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas already – now this!

When does the first colonization flight for Mars depart? I’d like to book my seat now!

Personally, I think the reporter was trying to show that Muslims are just like anyone else during this season. For the most part, they are regular people, until the radicals start their stuff…

I agree that may have been the intent, but the context in which he (they) chose to make this statement seems absurd. I think that most Americans realize that most Muslims are “just regular” people. Most Americans also realize that Muslims (radical or not) don’t celebrate the Christmas/Chanukah holiday and therefore their shopping habits are not affected. I don’t fast for Ramadan because I’m not of the Muslim faith, and I don’t believe that there’s any chance that a reporter would ever ask me a question regarding fasting for Ramadan. Since the liberals are obsessed with diversity, why are they so defensive about people being different and celebrating different holidays? It just gets on my nerves -that’s all.

Thanks as always for the thoughtful comment.
