Stick a fork in Rick Perry – he’s done!
If there were any doubts to date that Rick Perry’s run for the Republican nomination for president was an exercise in futility, there are certainly no doubts after last night.
Rick Perry’s speaking skills and propensity for gaffes make George W. Bush sound like Sir Laurence Olivier. He’s done little more than trip over his own tongue since throwing his hat into the ring. True, he’s the only candidate to propose a flat tax, but with a spokesperson like him, the flat tax idea has probably been set back ten years.
It’s too bad for the MSM that Perry has imploded so relatively early in the process. They had their hearts set from the beginning on a Romney – Perry race. They (the media) seem to have a knack for choosing Republican presidential nominees. The problem is that most Republican voters actually go along with them. The left-wing media would like nothing more than to have Perry running against Obama. If you think that you still hear the name George Bush way too often from the media and from this administration, you would think that the 22nd amendment was repealed and that G.W. was on the ballot again.
I expect Governor Perry to bow out of the race within the next week or so. After his embarrassing performance last night, I can’t imagine how donors would waste anymore money on him. When Perry does pack it in, he should convince the other Rick, Rick Santorum, to go with him. Santorum comes across as bitter and angry that he’s at or near the bottom of the polls among the Republican hopefuls. Sorry Rick, but you lost your last election in 2006 to a complete stiff, Bob Casey Jr., by 18 points. (59% to 41%) So please excuse us if we’re not quite bursting with confidence about your chances of defeating Obama.
