Is socialist-minded Europe finally admitting that socialism is a failure?

Anyone who still isn’t convinced that Socialism is a failed experiment needs only to look to Europe and to Greece in particular. There’s little doubt that Greece is the poster child for failed socialist states. Over the years its citizens have become drunk on, and addicted to, government provided benefits. These benefits were thought to be endless and immune from the laws of economics. Evidently a majority of Greeks actually believe that water can be squeezed from a stone.

Evidently, Greece has finally been hit squarely between the eyes with a sledgehammer called reality. They are now begging, or maybe demanding is a better description, the EU for yet another bailout. They already received one just last year. According to Forbes, Greece’s debt-to-GDP ratio is at a whopping 160%. For a culture that often credits itself for inventing geometry and other mathematical concepts, they sure seem to have a problem with basic math. They still don’t seem to understand the simple concept that you cannot spend more than you take in. Duh! I guess a few decades of Socialism can do wonders to dull the mind.

In return for a second bailout from its EU buddies, Greece is being told that they must further cut their budget and enact even tougher austerity measures. It’s needless to say that the Greek citizenry is up in arms over this and is once again protesting and even rioting in the streets. But there is a silver lining in all of this, albeit a small one. It seems that the EU has pretty much come to admit, perhaps inadvertently, that Socialism doesn’t work. They have come to understand that government social spending can’t just keep on growing in perpetuity. Maybe, just maybe, they have finally realized that someone has to pay the bills for cradle to grave care. In other words, Socialism can’t survive without the wealth created by Capitalism.

For years the Socialist states of Europe have been artificially propped up by the wealth of the few remaining nations that still, at least to a certain degree, practice capitalism. Greece and other destination spots in Europe that have relied on American investment and the Ugly American tourist to boost up their economies are now hurting badly. These are the very same countries that celebrated the coronation of Obama even more than our own stupid liberals; the same countries that didn’t seem to understand that it wouldn’t be to their benefit if the United States became just like them.

We have come to the crossroads where we have to finally decide if we want to continue on our current path and become just like Greece, or to go back to the basic principles that once made us the richest and most productive nation in world history. Many of the ignorant masses in our country don’t seem to notice what’s happening to Greece and other European nations; or they simply don’t care. These are the brainless Obama trolls. These are the OWS people. These are the municipal unions. These are the social welfare junkies.

Europe is finally beginning to understand that Socialism, Marxism, Progressivism, or whatever name one chooses to describe this insanity, isn’t sustainable and just doesn’t work. Will we take notice and slam on the brakes, or will we want to try it out for ourselves at the expense of the next several generations? I guess we’ll soon find out.
