No free speech for high-paid professional athletes

I once told my wife that I wouldn’t want to be a professional athlete in today’s world because they are pretty much just extremely well paid slaves.

Professional sports is become a bastion of political correctness only outdone, perhaps, by the institutions of higher education. Athletes are expected to say all the right things and to never stray from the boring politically correct talking points that have taken the place of real conversation and opinion.

And of course, if the players dare say anything about the performance of the game officials (referees, umpires, etc.) they get hit with a hefty fine. This policy makes BHO green with envy. Of course, if he really got his way, gulags and reeducation camps would be his method of choice to punish criticism of authority.

A case in point is the controversy that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has stirred up by 1) using the word retarded, and 2) supposedly not being loyal to his native state of New Jersey.

During a recent interview Flacco attempted to answer a question in regards to next year’s Super Bowl being played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey. Flacco forgot for a moment that he was a member of the NFL and gave a real honest answer instead of the canned malarkey that he’s expected to say.

Flacco answered:

“I think it’s retarded, I probably shouldn’t say that. I think it’s stupid. If you want a Super Bowl, put a retractable dome on your stadium. Then you can get one. Other than I don’t really like the idea. I don’t think people would react very well to it, or be glad to play anybody in that kind of weather.”

The answer the NFL brass wanted to hear would sound something like this:

‘I think having next year’s Super Bowl in New Jersey would be great for football and wonderful for the state of New Jersey. I have such great memories growing up here and I think it’s a fantastic idea.’

Of course, if he threw in a line about Hurricane Sandy and the great job Obama did in the aftermath, it would be all the more preferable.

I haven’t heard anything yet, but I wonder if blowhard Chris Christie will throw a tantrum about Flacco’s comments. How dare he not support New Jersey, just like BHO did during Hurricane Sandy!

So Flacco used the word retarded – so freakin’ what!

So Flacco gave his real opinion on having the Super Bowl take place, for the first time, in an open cold weather location – big freakin’ deal!

The last I checked BHO (and the NFL) hasn’t suspended the constitution and the bill of rights – not yet anyway, but I know he’s working very hard. Joe Flacco is entitled to his opinions and to chose the words he wants to use. Anyone upset over that needs to get a freakin’ life!

I really, really hate political correctness!!
