Living in a humorless society

As we all know, political correctness runs rampant through our society. People are now in fear of opening their mouths (certain people) lest they say something offensive – especially in regards to a minority, which means basically everyone except white people, excuse me, white males.

As a result, we are becoming a humorless society where humor is relegated to mocking Republicans/Conservatives/Christians – how boring.

In spite of this muzzle on speech, supposedly for the sake of tolerance, we have become a far less tolerant society. Although many words and expressions are off limits, people still find more and more reasons to be offended. And I don’t even want to get started with our colleges and universities – I’d be typing the rest of the year.

But things weren’t always like this. In fact, only a few short decades ago the speech on prime-time network television would send many in today’s thin-skinned population into a rage filled conniption.

Years ago they had these prime-time television roasts where the guest of honor, as well as the other attendees, were mercilessly skewered by each other.

My father and grandfather used to watch these programs and they loved them. I guess that’s why I turned out to be a rabid right-wing racist.

Check out the two videos I found below, both of which feature comedian Don Rickles, and ask yourself if this would be possible today?

The first video is a roast of the late Sammy Davis Jr. The second video is part of Reagan’s second inaugural event in 1985.

If you don’t think these videos are freakin hilarious, you must be a Democrat.

Awwwww-the good ole days! People knew how to lighten up ! Thanks for posting these videos, that was fun & remembering how people could joke without it being taken as “mean spirited”. Today you can’t even make a comment in fun about a truth, such as referencing black people’s love for watermelon, BBQ or fried chicken ! Like what is so frickin wrong with a remark about a known fact??
It’s gotten ridiculous —and, in case nobody’s noticed, the only groups can be talked loosely about without being accused of “hate speech” are Whites, “straights” & Christians !

LC:
In the nineties I worked for a company that employed several black men who were in NY for a long time, but were originally from the South. Anyway, we used to joke around and tease each other about our respective races and backgrounds. For instance, when there was a new hire one particular guy would always ask “is it one of your kind or one of ours.” Everything was light-hearted and nobody ever got angry or offended. Occasionally we even went out for drinks. I can’t even imagine such a work place anymore. It’s too bad.
