About

My name is Peter, or Pete, and I’m a very rare creature. In fact, I’m getting closer and closer to extinction. No, I’m not a spotted owl, but rather a conservative/libertarian New Yorker!

You see, there are a few of us left in NYC, but we rarely step out of the shadows lest we be ridiculed, berated, and persecuted by the open-minded and tolerant liberals that run wild and plentiful in this once great city. We are the undergound Gotham Resistance!

I consider myself a “real” New Yorker, not some liberal yuppie transplant who came here to escape conservative Middle America. You see, I had absolutely no choice in coming here because I was brought (thankfully) to America by my parents at the tender age of 4 from what is now Croatia. I took to this great country like a duck takes to water. In fact, I can’t remember ever not understanding and speaking English. My native language was all but forgotten until I became reacquainted with it only about ten years ago. I can now confidently describe myself as bilingual. Some people claim that they sometimes hear a slight trace of a foreign accent, but most say that the only accent they hear is a New York accent – I really don’t know! I attended the NYC public school system from kindergarten to high school, and grew up playing mostly on the concrete sidewalks and schoolyards of Northwestern Queens.

In my late teens I became interested in the conservative philosophy because it simply made sense to me. I never ran with the “in crowd” and I always thought for myself. Although I consider myself a conservative, I may not snuggly fit into the typical conservative mold. I hold many beliefs that could easily be described as Libertarian although I don’t always see eye to eye with many Libertarians. I truly believe in a creator, but I can’t honestly describe myself as very religious. I believe passionately in personal and economic liberty. I believe in the constitution and the rule of law. I believe that government should always be looked upon with a healthy suspicion regardless of the political party in power. I believe that we are all ultimately responsible for our own lives.

I’m warning you that my posts on this blog are written in the manner in which I speak and think in the course of my daily life. I don’t speak the language of the pointy–headed, pencil-necked intellectuals. So if you are an uptight liberal, a holier than thou moderate, or a spineless republican, this blog may not be for you. If however, you enjoy straight talk and honest opinions, and hate political correctness, liberal hypocrisy, and snobby elitism, you will most likely feel right at home with the Gotham Resistance.
